Biography

Manuel is a Vice President and Founding member of BBVA’s Corporate Venture Capital practice investing globally in innovative financial technology start-ups with a strategic angle for the BBVA Group. He focuses on alternative financial products and delivery channels, financial inclusion and digital marketing, among others. Manuel is responsible for building the function, searching for partners and overseeing deal flow for BBVA in Latin America (in particular Mexico, Colombia, Chile, Brazil). Selected investments during Manuel’s tenure (non exhaustive) include:

– 500 Startups (early-stage seed fund and incubator program)

– Ribbit Capital (fund focused on financial technology)

– SaveUp (financial education through gamification)

– Radius (small business sales intelligence)

– SumUp (mobile POS solution)

Previously, Manuel was a Senior Associate (Sept 2008 – Feb 2010) then Vice President (Feb 2010 – Mar 2011) for BBVA in the Strategy and Corporate Development Group. He initiated the Department’s Innovation practice, aimed at providing strategic advisory and iBank-like support to BBVA’s Innovation, Digital Businesses and Technology R&D Units in relation to the ideation, execution and follow-up of new business models.
